KXTbio, Inc., is a privately held biotechnology company based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. KXTbio, Inc. was founded in 2011 by Dr. John Sondek, a professor for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, in partnership with Dr. Mirko Stange, a life science entrepreneur and managing partner for the life science consultancy SilverSky Life Sciences, based in Düsseldorf, Germany. Dr. Stange holds a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he and Dr. Sondek met and began initial conversations for the founding of KXTbio.
In 2013, Dr. Sondek received a drug discovery award from pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline. The award was given based on his work to uncover potential targets for therapies that could have major implications for men’s health and cancer treatment. See details here.
When KXTbio started in 2011, funding was through government loans and research grants. In 2016, KXTbio received additional funding from a family office with international ties to the pharmaceutical industry.
Currently, KXTbio serves researchers and pharmaceutical companies in the United States and around the world.
